Winter’s chill

It began with a simple, harmless friendship.

We shared a lot of firsts,

Going from butterflies in our stomachs

To sharing our most vulnerable side with each other…

It felt like spring -

Love blossomed,

Skies were pink

And ponies seemed real.

Could this get any better?

We continued to water our love plant,

Did everything in the rain to keep it alive;

That gave us…

Four years of togetherness,

love that only made sense to us.

Compromises and sacrifices didn’t teach us boundaries;

With every drop we poured,

We lost a little of ourselves,

One day at a time.

“Doing it for the greater good” was the lie we told ourselves.

What should’ve brought us closer

Only revealed the truth in time:

That our journey didn’t unfold the same after all.

We only grew together to eventually grow apart.

Carrying this burden of “what could have been,”

Pretending to be blindfolded and ignorant of “what it really is.”

We were supposed to be two peas in a pod but turns out we were as different as chalk and cheese.
